New York City, June 11, 2013 — Every year, the Macktez Summer Stipend inspires creative people to take a great idea and transform it into a finished product. From a Polaroid photographic project that encouraged us to reflect on death and ambitions, to floating armada of miniature boats that enabled visitors to safely explore the Newtown Creek superfund site, the Macktez Summer Stipend brings imaginative projects to the finish line.

Macktez, a New York City and San Francisco-based consulting firm with an office in London, is accepting applications from June 21st through July 26th 2013. The Stipend application is located online at macktez.com/stipend.

Now in its ninth year, the Macktez Summer Stipend helps creative people — whether they are makers, artists, explorers, or hobbyists — by providing the funding needed to realize their creative potential.

With a firm belief in the importance of communication, Macktez grew from a small firm with six steady clients in 1996 to one that now serves more than a hundred clients in San Francisco and New York, as well as around the globe. The Summer Stipend helps applicants focus their creative energies with a unique, workbook-style application worksheet that includes a step-by-step guide to help clarify the applicants’ visions and avoid distractions to reach their goals.

At Macktez we believe that taking small, steady steps toward one’s goals is the surest way to achieve them. Clearing away distraction and finding focus takes creative ideas from concepts to realized visions.

Macktez Summer Stipend applications are considered based upon the following criteria: originality, relevance, and conviction. Finalists will be selected by an esteemed panel of judges that hail from the design, architecture, and academic worlds. This year’s panelists are: Marc Shillum, Natasha Jen, JB Osborne, Jamie Trowbridge, Eric Heiman, Hunter Tura, Fabian Falconett, and Biki Berry.

Marc Shillum, Principal and Global Head of Brand at Method, has been extensively awarded as a designer, writer, creative director, and strategist, and lead teams at such firms as BBH, W+K, TWBA, and R/GA. He’s also a great dad. Natasha Jen, Partner at Pentagram. She was one of the winners of Art Directors Club Young Guns and has twice served as a judge. JB Osborne, Founding Partner and CEO of Red Antler, a branding and design consultancy specializing in startups and new ventures. Jamie Trowbridge, President of Tierra Innovation a boutique digital strategy, design and software development firm based in New York City. Eric Heiman, designer, educator, writer, DJ, and, most recently, karaoke enthusiast. He is a Co-Principal and Creative Director of the award-winning, much-exhibited creative agency Volume, Inc. in San Francisco. Hunter Tura, President and CEO of Bruce Mau Design, a Toronto based multi-discplinary design firm specializing in brands and environments. Fabian Falconett, User Experience Designer, based out of San Francisco and formerly of Method. He is now focusing on User Experience in the healthcare space at Healthagen. Biki Berry, widely known west coast creative recruiter, formerly of Modern Media/Digitas.
